In the Upper Room, the Bible talks about some of the dynamics that happened before the Holy Spirit was poured out.
“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.” Acts 2:1
It says that they were “with one accord in one place.” Think about that for a moment. To get everyone in one accord and on the same page is next to impossible. I would say their “one accord” came together on one specific thing: They all wanted God to be poured out. They wanted His Spirit to be poured out. They knew Jesus promised it would happen so they were “in one accord” that it would.
They let go of all their preconceived ideas and everything else that was going on. Instead they came together on one issue: They wanted His anointing. They wanted Him to pour out His Spirit on all flesh.
Their one accord wasn’t to build the church, an institution or to build another religion. Instead it was more like this: God, come. Meet with us. Fill us Lord with Your anointing, with Your power, with Your Spirit that we might go out and tell this world about the love of God, the mercy of God and the grace of God.
The Holy Spirit didn’t come to build a church in the way we think “institutional church.” He didn’t come to build a club either. He came to empower an army! He came to empower people that would go in to all the world and preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He came to empower people who would reflect Him wherever they went. People who would lay hands on the sick, cast out devils and speak in new tongues.
He came to empower YOU!
I don’t know what you’re looking for, but I’m looking for the glory. I’m looking for another outpouring of the glory of God in my generation!
We read a book recently as a staff where the writer described different types of churches. One type of church is the “club” church. The club church is always trying to come up with more amenities for the members. They are always doing surveys for the members. If the determination is that the service is too long the decision is made to shorten it. If the people don’t like service on Sunday mornings, the choice is made to do a Saturday night. The truth is, I’ve done all that myself. Do you know what it’s done for me? Absolutely nothing!
When I was saved, I was saved in the glory, in the power, and in the fire of God. Even still, when I look back on my life I realize that I became religious at a certain point and had to work through it. Being religious did absolutely nothing for me.
Listen friend, I want you to know what God did 2,000 years ago He’s getting ready to do it again! He has done it in every generation. However, there are always a majority who miss it. History proves that out.
When the power fell at Azusa Street in 1906 it was on a small handful of people. When you put it in context to what was going on in the rest of the world, all that happened in the next three to five years was very minimal. If you read the History books on it you’ll find that while it was big within our circle, it was actually not in the light of the population of our planet. It was big, but it wasn’t that big.
There have always been a few, a minority of people who will say, “I’m fed up with religion. I’m fed up with the way things are right now. I want to see the power of God!”
I don’t know where you are at today, but I want to encourage you to go after the glory, go after the fire, go after the anointing of Heaven!
My prayer is this: Lord, build an army. Build a people that are unashamed to pray, to confess, to speak out Your Word. Build a people that know they can be a conduit for Your glory! Build people who know they can lay hands on the sick and the sick will recover!
I encourage you to stay in faith and out of doubt. No matter how many times you’ve seen it NOT happen, I’m here to tell you it IS going to happen!
The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is not a “one and done” kind of thing. It is a continual process. Ephesians 5:18 says that we are to “be filled with the Spirit.” In the Greek it says, “be being filled.” It’s a continual infilling!
We all need to be filled up again!
Think of it this way: We all have problems and issues in life that cause the glory to “leak out” of us. When that happens we need to be filled up once again. It is an ongoing, continual and even daily part of our growth.
Do you want that infilling? If you do lift your hands and pray something like this: Lord, I need to be filled once again. Fill me up Lord! Just like You did 2,000 years ago in the Upper Room, do it again in me Lord! Fill me with Your fire! Fill me with Your glory! Fill me once again with Your Holy Spirit!
Now, RECEIVE! Receive by faith what He has for you! He’ll do His part, you have to do yours!
Let me encourage you today to be a part of the army of God, NOT the club! Stay FILLED UP with His glory, fire and presence continually!!!
